The International Chiropractors Association’s Council on Chiropractic Pediatrics’ first seminar conducted in both French and English proved the “I” in ICA does stand for “International”. The seminar, presented by ICA’s postgraduate council on pediatrics, April 22-24 in Quebec City, Canada, was enormously successful.
According to the doctors and students who attended, the program was not only excellent, but the lectures in both languages made it easier for them to learn and to get their questions answered. Though the doctors and students know English and understand it well, French is the language they study in and speak. Having half the lectures in French, and speakers who could translate some of their questions when necessary, made the learning experience that much more effective. The attendees thanked the Pediatrics Council again and again for bringing a quality educational program to Quebec and expressed the hope that the Council would return for another seminar in the not too distant future.
The instructors who taught in French were Pediatric Council Diplomates Dr. Chantal Doucet (Montreal), Dr. Sonia Morin (St Augustine) and Dr. Chantal Pinard (Longueuil). All three ICA Diplomates are private practitioners and serve as assistant professors at the University of Quebec Trois Rivieres. Teaching in English were Dr Joan Fallon (New York) and Dr. Peter Fysh (California).
One doctors who came all the way from Paris said he has attended pediatric seminars put on by other groups, but the standard of education and the information given at this seminar was vastly superior and expressed the hope that the Pediatrics Council would consider doing a bi-lingual program in France.
“We were very pleased and encouraged with the extremely positive response,” said Dr. Joan Fallon and Dr. Fysh, both of whom have been instrumental in establishing and developing the Pediatric Council’s educational programs including its three-year Diplomate in Chiropractic Pediatrics. “It was also great to see our Diplomates playing such an active role in their province and not only willing to share and teach what they have learned, but taking that extra step to make this seminar happen.”
The ICA Council on Chiropractic Pediatrics will be holding its next international seminar in Dublin, Ireland July 15-16. This seminar will be all in English with three Council speakers: Dr. Lora Tanis (New Jersey, USA);. Dr. Joan Fallon (New York, USA); and Dr. Joan Miller (Bournemouth, UK).
The Council’s Annual Conference with 12 speakers is set for Maui, Hawaii, December 2-4. For more information about these programs, the Diplomate course and Council membership visit www.icapediatrics.com or email at pediatricscouncil@chiropractic.org.
