A New Communications Center Focused on
Your Personal And Professional Growth,
And Chiropractic’s Success
Worldwide!
THE MERTZ
REPORT:
NEW STEPS TO YOUR PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL
SUCCESSES!
FROM DR. CJ. MERTZ, ICA PRESIDENT
Dear Friend:
It is my hope and wish that each week you will read my message and fill your
life and practice with an increasing number of possibilities for success. The
Mertz Report is
designed to put your finger on the pulse of the most dynamic personal changes,
the most effective communications skills, the best procedural and promotional
strategies, and the latest global developments in our profession. ICA’s
mission is your success!
I am honored to have this opportunity and this forum to speak on behalf of the
ICA and to articulate a great new vision for chiropractic and the
chiropractor; a vision without limits! Success, however, is not a battle on a
single front. The multi-dimensional effort that we all must make to achieve
what we want for ourselves, our families and our practices is easier with
allies and partners. ICA is your partner in today’s increasingly complex
and competitive world of health care, and I look forward to a powerful
exchange of ideas and vision through this forum, on a regular basis.
Together, we can do so much more for chiropractic than we can as individuals.
Here are this week’s thoughts:
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:
Does it do you any good to be the best there is in whatever you do, if no one
knows you are there? Obviously not. ICA is committed to opening doors for
chiropractic, and that means opening minds. ICA has stepped forward and
found an exciting new avenue to significantly impact the public. ICA has
enthusiastically and officially endorsed “Bill Frank’s Forever Young” an
exciting new television show set to begin airing in January 2004 on the
Discovery Network.
Bill Frank, well-known fitness leader and author, is the host and producer of
this show, formerly seen on the Fox Health Network. Bill is a chiropractic
believer who has a dream, one that I heartily share; and that is to see
chiropractic lead the wellness movement. Tens of millions of people watch
the Discovery Network and next year, “Bill
Frank’s Forever Young” will be “Brought to you by the
International Chiropractors Association - Your Wellness Experts.” Imagine the
referral possibilities on a steady message encouraging consumers to reach out
and find a chiropractor through this, our age’s most powerful medium! Bill’s
goal in 2004 is to introduce as many as five million people in the United
States and Canada into chiropractic practices by using a toll-free referral
number. I believe that over Bill’s 26-show schedule next year, nothing will
bring chiropractic closer, faster, to making
“subluxation” a household word, than this historic project.
If you would like to secure your place in this new referral program, and
become the beneficiary of one of the greatest outreach efforts in the history
of chiropractic, act today by visiting
www.billfrank.com
and contribute your support to what promises to be a truly breakthrough
program. I will continue to update you as ICA builds its public education
campaign, in pursuit of our goal of educating all members of the public about
the power of the chiropractic principle. Stand by for exciting news!
PRACTICE DEVELOPMENT:
All successful practices are built upon the foundation of an unshakable
system. Your system should express your highest beliefs rather than being
apart from them. Only then can you have the faith, confidence and
belief-system to set in stone the rules by which your team and your patients
can build an enduring chiropractic health success story. Powerful values and
YOUR confidence in them are what draws families from generation to generation
to form a chiropractic “dynasty”!
Rules are, by the way, a positive and powerful framework to get important
things done. If you have no rules in your practice or they appear as
penalties, then it becomes very hard to operate from a position of strength,
one that embodies and reflects your core values. Make this week the week that
you carefully re-examine how your practice functions in light of this
concept. This might be your time to discover what parts of your system lack
the anchor that only your core values can provide and to take steps to build a
new system that truly reflects your personal integrity and supports your
highest beliefs. Above all, do not be afraid to rebuild, even if it means
tearing down what you have now, and re-inventing your practice on a lasting
foundation.
PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT:
The most important element in your personal environment is knowing what is
most important and acting to take care of your top priorities. Much like a
church, you and your practice team need to know who is most in need of your
“ministerial” attention. Church members who are truly saved do not need to be
managed. You don’t need to follow up on them because they are committed. In
this same way, patients who are truly transformed and understand the
chiropractic story have embraced an enduring body of health principles. Their
proof is in their good health. It is easy for us doctors to minimize or
become oblivious to the life-changing power of the chiropractic adjustment.
Remember, this is the kind of profound understanding that you cannot manage,
you can only lead.
The practices, and churches, that are filled with the greatest number of
“believers” all have one thing in common: inspired leadership. Inspired
leadership starts with your own personal confidence in what you believe, and
comes to life through your powerful projection of those values. It is one
thing to know what you believe, and quite another to positively influence
those around you, inspiring them to adopt those values as their own.
This week, take your most passionate beliefs and compress them into bold
statements. Then, gather the confidence to make those statements from the
heart, letting everyone know what you believe and value the most. Through
your example, you will “manage” the half-hearted and lead the believers. You
will find, however, that leadership takes only one-tenth of the energy it
takes to manage, and it has an enduring quality that lives long after you are
no longer there.
Until next
time, practice with passion,
From Above-Down,
CJ
